MENOMONIE THEATER GUILD ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR “THE GLASS MENAGERIE”
The Menomonie Theater Guild invites you to audition for “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams. The Glass Menagerie was Williams’s first successful play; he went on to become one of America’s most highly regarded playwrights. Seth Berrier will be directing MTG’s production.
Tom Wingfield has a story to tell; a story of sacrifice for his sickly sister Laura. A story of frustration with his controlling mother Amanda. A biographical story of Tennessee William’s own family filtered through Tom’s memory, if you trust how he remembers it. An instant classic that launched a career, The Glass Menagerie is woven around these flawed, relatable characters and their struggle to leave the past behind while it holds them to their impoverished life in St. Louis.
WHEN: Monday, March 5 from 6-8:00pm or Tuesday, March 6th, 2017 from 6pm-8pm. Choose one date to attend.
WHERE: Menomonie Theater Guild, 502 W 2nd St, Menomonie, WI 54751
Amanda Wingfield: A faded Southern belle, abandoned by her husband, who is trying to raise her two children under harsh financial conditions. Principle character. Adult to mature adult, female.
Tom Wingfield: Amanda’s son. Tom works at a shoe warehouse to support his family but is frustrated by his job and aspires to be a poet. Narrator and principle character. Young adult to adult male.
Laura Wingfield: Amanda’s daughter and Tom’s older sister. A childhood illness has left her with a limp, and she has a mental fragility and an inferiority complex that have isolated her from the outside world. Principle character. Young adult to adult female.
Jim O’Connor: An old high school acquaintance of Tom and Laura. Smaller character. Young adult to adult male.
Casting will be color-blind and persons of all body types and abilities are welcome to audition.
More information about the roles may be found at the Menomonie Public Library. Auditions will include readings from the script. Come prepared to try a mild southern/Missouri accent.
